From Sardinina pomace
Filu e Ferru, the name dates back a few centuries and derives from the method used to hide stills when the aquavite was produced clandestinely. Containers with distillate and stills were hidden underground and were tied with one or more iron wires with the top section protruding from the ground, in order to pinpoint their exact location at later times.
